MY TESTIMONY (PART 1)
A TESTIMONY ABOUT A PHONE
John 9: 11, “He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some
mud and pit it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and
washed and then I could see.” A man who had been born blind had received
healing from Jesus and people couldn’t recognize him because he had been
healed, he was different, he could see, something was unfamiliar about him. He
told them that indeed he was still the man they knew but the fact that he had
received a miracle, a transformation, a change, they couldn’t recognize him. He
had encountered Jesus’ power. When asked how he had received sight he replied
as in John 9: 11 (shared above). He gave his testimony. He spoke of this man,
Jesus who had healed him.
Today, I want to speak of the great power of Jesus I have
experienced. In 2015, I had my first experience of phone mugging and I will
tell you it is quite a scare. This meant that I had to transition from my ‘smartphone’
to using a cell phone or as many would like to call it, mulika mwizi. I thought
to myself, this wouldn’t take long, I thought I would have a new phone in no
time but no, that wouldn’t be the case. Fast forward, I repaired an old phone Nokia 5800 Xpress Music , given to me by my
sister which I survived with in 2015. Now you know me being a social media
enthusiast, keeping off from sites like Instagram was what I would call at that
time, quite tasking because my Nokia could only access Facebook. I remember
using my friends’ (Judy, Mumbi and Gibson) phones to access Instagram haha, what
are friends for? PS: Thanks for your help.
Towards the end of 2015, the Nokia experienced problems and
I was left phone-less. You might wonder, why not just tell your folks to buy
you one but believe me, it wasn’t as easy as it sounds (Story or rather
testimony for another day). So there I was, no phone and frustrated. My dad
spoke to my aunt who lent me an old phone she didn’t use anymore. This
officially meant that my social media days were technically over. No, I didn’t
have a computer at that time. I used the phone for a while then just like that
the battery started swelling up. I had to use black tape to keep the phone together
hehe. Later my dad was able to get me some 300/- which I used to buy a new
battery, you wouldn’t believe this but I felt as though I was using a new phone.
I remember I asked my sister to assist me with her phone sometimes just to go
through my social media platforms (Oh how desperate I was) or sometimes go to
the cyber.
God was good to me and I landed a job in April 2016. I knew
that this would be a chance to buy a new phone but for the first few months I
was getting an allowance of 10k which if you are working in Westlands, is not enough
to get you a new phone. Towards mid-April the phone my aunt lent me started
going off unexpectedly and I knew that this only meant that it’s job was done.
I sought the Lord’s guidance on what to do and God used my friend Kate (we call
her Mymy) who asked her sis to assist me with her LG phone, which she gladly
consented to. I used another borrowed phone for a month until the end of May
2016 when I saw that Jumia had crazy offers. This was my chance to finally own
my own phone. I reviewed the prices and on a particular day the prices were as
low as 3500 for a smartphone. I was ready to forego lunch the following month
if only I could at least get that phone. However I was not in luck and so I
didn’t get the phone at that price. However, the deals were still on, now the
phone retailing at 5499/- I told God in my heart, I didn’t know how but I
possessed that phone in my Spirit. True to God’s word, the following month some
family members from my mum’s side visited home and by God’s grace left us a
certain amount of money. My dad being very pressed with the issue gave me some
of the money and I topped up with what I had set aside from my allowance and
the next day I ordered the phone. I was striving for a Samsung J5 at that time
but the Lord knew, noo…I needed to take this step by step. The phone, which I
have to present is an Innjoo Halo Plus. I speak of it now so proudly because I
know what the Lord took me through to get here.
For some of you, it might just be another phone, but to me,
it is my miracle, my testimony. 2017 is here and I am using my own God given
phone, having used borrowed phones for one year. If this is not the doing of
God I don’t know what you would call it. I serve a King, my Provider.
I wrote this to encourage you that the tough situation you
are going through isn’t permanent. God is taking you through the process to
mould you, to build a character out of you. Patience, I have learnt is not just
about waiting, it is about what you are doing as you wait. Are you trusting God
as you wait, are you praising God as you wait, are you serving God as you wait?
I will say that that period when I was using borrowed phones, God was building
something in me. He needed me to learn something and it was accepting help from
people, lowering my pride. I had always been the person who would offer help
but sometimes being offered help was difficult for me. It might be shocking but
it had been a struggle and God knew it, He had to change me. I encountered His
Power.
GOD BLESS YOU | GOD LOVES YOU
