SALT AND LIGHT

Praise Jesus!

I remember when I was a kid, our parents organized Sunday prayers where we'd fellowship together. I used to look forward to Sunday Afternoons because that meant that one, I would have some cakes from my aunt place and two, we (my cousins and I) would perform  a song or skit in front of our parents and get an applaud. See I was very young then to understand fully what they preached to us but one thing for certain it was quite beneficial. During these fellowships that we called "Mahoya", everyone would tell on the other haha saying that, oh, my sister abused me this, or my brother did this to me and then our parents would caution us against bad behaviour. Oh, how I miss those days. This reminds me of the word that says, "Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it." Here I am now, spreading the word that I was trained on.

Today, my focus is on a particular scripture, Matthew 5:13-16, which my uncle used to speak on. In those days the fellowships were held in my native language, Kikuyu, and he used to say, "Inyui ni inyui cube wa thi," translated to, You are the salt of the earth. I used to think about salt literally, like how could I be salt, I am human, how can I be salt, I would wonder. He would further go on and talk about being the light of the world and how a lamp is not put under a bowl. This, as mentioned earlier was all so amazing to me, rather confusing I would say.

I am glad today that I was confused then, because it gave me the interest in understanding this word, understand what it meant and how it applied in my life. Today during my personal devotion, the LORD reminded me through His word that indeed I am the SALT and the LIGHT of the world.
Let us break this down in very simple words. You see salt is meant to add flavor to food, when mixed with warm water and sugar it is used to cure a stomach upset, when you have an injury, it is used to stop a lot of blood from flowing out as well as keep germs away and so many more uses. I believe if I was to talk about the uses of salt, I would need to do another blog post. Let us however look at it's main purpose which is, adding flavour to food. Have you ever eaten cooked food with no salt? Most people say, "this food is tasteless." Well it is the same case for us Christians, when we do not apply the word of God in our lives, live together in brotherly love, spread thew word of God, refuse to read God's word, refuse to fellowship with God; We become tasteless, yes, we have no  value and do you know what happens to salt when it losses its saltiness, it is thrown away. You, no we Christians will also be thrown away when we loose our Christianity. Imagine that, thrown away and trampled. That is why we find so many "dead", "tasteless" Christians who have no impact in the body of Christ. They are just there, no influence, no impact, how sad!

Secondly let us look at LIGHT. We have been called the light of the world too. What does light do? Yes, it drives out darkness. If then a lamp is covered under a bowl will it show light? No, it won't, why, because it is covered. Are you a covered Christian? Don't get me wrong when I say covered. I don't mean the spiritual covering but the worldly kind of covering. Are you covered in bitterness, unforgiveness, spite, hatred, sexual immorality, rage, hypocrisy, deceit. I could go on and on but go read Colossians 3:5-10 and find out if you are covered in any of those mentioned. Remember that song, "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, Let it shine"? I bet you remember it, and it is a song not for children but for Christians, Believers to let their light shine.

There is so much evil in this world but very many Christians. That makes no sense because as Christians we should be living in love, compassion, kindness, forgiveness (Colossinas 3:12-17).
Have you covered your light, have you lost your saltiness? Go back to the basics, reconcile with God, repent and draw closer to God. LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!

GOD BLESS YOU | YOU ARE LIGHT
