GOD’S FAITHFULNESS: My resting place

How many of you at any one point in your life have you been restless? I have and I always say to people, it is not an enjoyable state to be in. More so, if you have already known and tasted REST. When we are tired, we rest. When a brother or sister in Christ goes to be with the Lord, we say, may they rest in peace. This means therefore that REST must be a very important element of a person’s life. You see, when you are restless, do you realise that your mind, body and soul cannot function normally? My mind will feel overweighed and my body will suddenly feel heavy and my soul will be “all over the place”.

Someone might ask, how then do we get to a position of restlessness? Before we answer that, we must remember that along with restlessness, comes anxiety. We become anxious when we feel as though we can’t control what is happening around us. And this should be the case. We don’t have the ability to control what is happening around us – God does. In 2nd Chronicles 20:  30, the Bible says, “And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace for his God had given him REST on every side. If you are following, you may have noticed the part that says, “GOD HAD GIVEN HIM REST ON EVERY SIDE.” Yes, my friends, it is only God who can give rest. We, in our own power cannot have full control over the external but our Father who owns n all things can.

I hope I haven’t lost anyone at this point. We have established where restlessness and anxiety come from. One of the results of restlessness is fear. Fear cripples us to a point we feel helpless. Let me bring  a little bit more context into this. When you are in need of money but you don’t have it at the moment, what will you result to doing? Some of you will faithfully trust in God to provide but some will become so restless and the fear of not getting that money will creep in. Soon, you might resort into dubious ways of finding money. However, we must remember one truth here, God says through Hebrews 13: 5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because  God has said, Never will I  leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Are you restless because of a loved one who is unwell? Is your workplace facing retrenchment? Are you worried about your future? Are you restless because of an exam? My friends, I will share with you the words of Psalm 62: 1-2,”my soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. Why are these words so important? It is because in order for you to rest, you must find something to lean against or sit on. Something that can hold your weight well. In this case, David is telling his soul to find rest in God because God can hold the weight of his restlessness so well.
Sadly, today we live in a time when people are seeking to find rest in everything but God. However, as many may attest, true and permanent REST can only be found in God. He created us and He knows us best.

Do you have a friend or family member who seems restless? Today say a pray for them. Pray for their souls to find rest in God, pray for their minds to be renewed in Christ Jesus and pray for them to look up to God always that they may find rest.

God bless you all and favour you abundantly in Jesus Name.
